Caregiver Communication Technology

Feb 3, 2017 | Studies & Research

Almost all home care agencies use old technology to document caregiver actions. Most of the smaller agencies still rely on paper records. Caregivers are required to stop by the office and submit their paperwork, particularly their hours.

Most of the larger agencies use some form of telephone reporting called “telephony”. While telephony is better than paper records, it is old technology and has many limitations. Telephony does not support two-way communication and alerts.

Furthermore, only about 55% of homes actually have landlines. As a result, many caregivers are forced to use their personal cell phones. Many do not use GPS, and there are legal issues when caregivers are required to use their personal phones to support their employer.

Home Care LINK uses a single purpose digital tablet connected to the internet. The LINK service is all inclusive: the software, the tablet and the data plan. There is no reliance on any existing connections and no installation of additional equipment. It is simple and easy, and it is month to month.

Obviously we believe that the LINK approach is far superior to telephony. The chart on the right shows a side by side comparison.

Why do home care agencies continue to use telephony? One reason – it’s cheaper!

For timelier, more accurate and more complete caregiver communication, consider upgrading to Home Care LINK.
